Infamous Second Son is the "third" (fourth if you count Infamous Festival of Blood) installment in the InFamous franchise. It's a sequel to Infamousand Infamous 2 and takes place in Seattle seven years after the events in New Marais. Coming only to Playstation 4, inFamous Second Son was officially revealed at Sony's Playstation 4 reveal event in NYC on February 20th, 2013. Official PlayStation Blog.
In this universe, the "DUP" (Department of Unified Protection) is a police and monitoring group dedicated to keeping order and capturing Conduits, which are the people with superhuman powers. With Cole McGrath no longer returning, the game features a new protagonist called Delsin Rowewhose main ability is being able to absorb the power of other conduits.
Similar to the original inFamous, Delsin starts-off as a regular human until a life-changing event happens. Having saved some passengers from a fiery bus-wreck, it's then that he gains his abilites, with Sucker Punch hinting that he absorbed his powers from one of them.
Since the DUP's main aim is to prevent events similar to the catastrophic rampage of the Beast from happening again, Delsin is one of their targets. However, he is more than willing to put up a fight.
Unlike previous inFamous games this one takes place in Seattle instead of a fictional city such as Empire City or New Marais, However, the story still takes place within the same fictional universe as the previous games. Thisdecision by Sucker Punch could hint at their intention to tell a story more relatable to the player as during the story "Delsin is going to ask questions that are not just relevant to the world of Second Son – but to the world we all live in today."
This also means that the layout of the open-world will be easier to predict than in the previous games as well as the player will be able to visit real-world landmarks in Seattle.
In a recent trailer, Deslin is demonstrating his power of Neon, which is a bright light capable of more or less the same things he could do before, except now he can run along walls and emit a shockwave. More will be revealed later.
Sucker Punch also confirmed that decision-making (karma) mechanics will appear in this game, similar to the previous two inFamous games.
